A Servant of Two Masters (Summer '05)
by Carlo Goldoni
Directed by Gary Dooley, The Crescent Theatre Birminghan, Summer Tour 2005
Fasten your doublet and pull up your hose as The Crescent Theatre presents Carlo Goldoni’s classic comedy ‘A Servant of Two Masters’. Set in 18th Century Venice, this play has enjoyed numerous successful productions over the years. This new production promises a high-energy rollercoaster of a ride – sumptuously costumed and imaginatively staged.
Confusion reigns when the impoverished Truffaldino decides to enter into the service of two masters at the same time. Unfortunately, the two masters he chooses are separated lovers on the run, each unaware that the other is in town – which is not difficult as one of them is in drag. Add another pair of young lovers, some very dodgy servants and a huge feast and you have a recipe for comedy mayhem.
My first lead role as the simple, manic and comical “Truffaldino”.
This was my first experience of open air touring and having to adapt to ever changing exits and entrances and my first devised interaction with an audience. We toured many stately homes and botanical venues over the summer and it was an amazing experience.
